Frequently Asked Questions

Handmade Soaps

What does cold process soap mean?

Each soap loaf is made with a great deal of attention using the cold process soap making technique.  Cold process soap is made by combining lye solution (sodium hydroxide and water) and oils. This causes a chemical reaction called saponification and is essential in the making of soap. Whilst it is caustic in its natural form, we allow each bar to cure for 4 weeks in a well ventilated room to ensure the lye evaporates with the water, making it fully hardened and safe to use on the skin.

Is your soap good for eczema, psoriasis or sensitive skin?

We are not medical professionals and are not legally allowed to advise on whether our products have curing properties but there is a lot of research that suggests natural soaps are beneficial for skin conditions because of its natural and moisturising properties, as well as natural colourants.  Our soaps are formulated with gentle, nourishing ingredients like shea butter, extra virgin olive oil and rice bran oil, which are known to be kind to sensitive skin.  We also offer an unscented option for those who prefer minimal ingredients.

What if I have allergies?

Please read our ingredients lists thoroughly before making a purchase if you have allergies.  If you are unsure, please contact us directly and we can answer any queries.  If you have any irritation, please stop using the product immediately.

What makes natural soap different from commercial soap?

Our natural soaps are handcrafted with plant based oils, butters, and pure essential oils, and contain no synthetic fragrances, artificial dyes, or harsh detergents. Unlike many commercial soaps, which remove the naturally occurring glycerin (a by product of the soap making process), our soaps retain this moisturising glycerin, helping to hydrate your skin while cleansing. This means our soaps clean effectively without stripping the skins natural oils, leaving it feeling soft and nourished.

Are your soaps vegan and cruelty free?

Yes! All of our soaps are 100% vegan and cruelty free, made without animal derived ingredients or animal testing.  We believe in creating products that are kind to both your skin and the environment.

Where do you get your ingredients from?

All of our ingredients are from trusted soap suppliers who import their ingredients from sustainable sources across the world.  All of the ingredients we chose are either organic and/or unrefined.

Does your soap contain palm oil?

No, we are committed to being palm oil-free. We carefully select other luxury plant based oils like coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil and sunflower oil, which provide a creamy lather and moisturise the skin naturally.

How long does a bar of your handmade soap last?

We utilise ingredients that create a firm bar of soap that is also highly moisturising.  Each bar is cured for 4-6 weeks so will not have any water weight left in it.  With daily use and the right storage, your bar will last about 1 month.  Using a suitable soap dish will help your bar stay firm and last longer

How do I store my soap to make it last longer?

To make your soap last longer, store it in a well-drained soap dish away from water between uses.  This will help it to keep dry and firm, allowing it to last longer.  We supply two different styles of soap dish which are both perfect for maintaining the longevity of the soap.  Click here to be taken directly to our soap dishes.

Why does each soap bar look slightly different, and what if my soap has an imperfection?

Each bar of soap is hand crafted and hand cut which means that no bar is the same and they each have their own character.  When making each batch, whilst we aim to have consistency with temperature, naturally this can vary and the temperature can impact the batch, for example with the depth of the colour or the texture of the soap.  You may also witness 'soda ash' which is a harmless powder-like substance that can sometimes form when the new soap meets the air or has a rapid drop in temperature. This will disappear after the first use and is not harmful at all. These small differences add to the uniqueness of each bar while maintaining the same quality and care in every batch.

How do you colour your soaps?

All of our soaps are coloured using natural colourants, such as activated charcoal or clays. Each of these have their own benefits for the skin.

Do your soaps contain artificial fragrances?

No, we only use pure essential oils to scent our soaps, ensuring they are free from artificial fragrances and synthetic chemicals.

Bamboo Pads

How do I wash the pads?

To wash them you just put them in the mesh wash bag provided, pull the draw strings tight so the pads don’t fall out and throw it in with your normal white wash up to 40 degrees.

Can they go in the tumble dryer?

Yes they can, however, it isn't necessary as they dry so quickly and will last longer if you let them dry naturally.

Can they be used to apply toner and exfoliator?

Yes, they are very versatile so you can use them however you feel suitable in your normal skincare regime.

Can they be used to remove nail polish or mascara?

Yes, however, we would advise against it as nail varnish may stain them. Some of our customers have said how they keep the same couple of pads to remove more stubborn products.

Can you put them in the wash without the wash bag?

We advise against this - the pads are small and you do not want to get them stuck somewhere in the washing machine. However, you can hand wash them individually if that is your preference for washing.
